A private Gulfstream IV business jet crashed on January 2, 2021, at the La Romana International Airport in the Dominican Republic. The aircraft, which was reportedly attempting an emergency landing shortly after takeoff, went down near the runway, resulting in the deaths of both individuals on board.
Victims Identified
Authorities confirmed that the two victims were American pilots. The flight was reportedly en route to Miami, Florida, when the crew encountered technical difficulties and requested to return to the airport. The victims have been identified as Luis Alberto Eljuri Tancredo and Victor Emilio Herrera, both of whom held American citizenship.
Investigation Underway
Following the crash, the Dominican Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC) and the Civil Aviation Accident Investigation Commission (CIAA) immediately initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the accident. Emergency response teams, including firefighters and airport security, were deployed to the scene to manage the wreckage and secure the area. An official statement from airport authorities noted that 'the aircraft experienced mechanical issues shortly after departure,' prompting the fatal attempt to return to the facility.
