Global Recall Initiated by German Regulator
Germany's Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA), the federal transport regulator, has mandated a worldwide recall of over 330,000 BMW vehicles due to a potential fire risk. The safety concern stems from incorrectly routed dashboard wiring. Of the total, approximately 29,000 cars are located in Germany, with the remainder distributed globally.
Affected Models and Production Period
The recall specifically targets five different BMW models: the i5, 5 Series, M5, i7, and 7 Series. These vehicles were manufactured between June 2022 and December 2025. The KBA's directive highlights that these models are 'potentially concerned' by the safety issue related to the dashboard wiring.
Nature of the Fire Risk
The core of the problem lies with the incorrect routing of the dashboard wiring, which poses a fire hazard. While the KBA has ordered the recall as a preventive measure, no incidents, crashes, or injuries related to this specific dashboard wiring issue have been registered so far.
Second Recall in a Month for BMW
This latest action marks the second significant recall for the German automaker in less than a month. Earlier in February, BMW announced a separate recall affecting hundreds of thousands of cars worldwide due to a potential risk of engine starters sparking a fire. In late 2024, the company also recalled 1.5 million vehicles over a faulty braking system.

Credit to the KBA for enforcing these crucial standards.

The KBA's swift action is commendable in ensuring vehicle safety for consumers worldwide. Yet, for BMW, this pattern of significant recalls, especially for new models, raises serious questions about their engineering and production standards.

Fire risk in premium cars? Unacceptable from BMW.

Another day, another BMW recall. Quality control is a joke.

This is getting ridiculous. Lost all trust in the brand.
