Tragic Blaze Engulfs Bhiwadi Factory
Seven workers have tragically died following a massive fire that erupted at a chemical factory in the Khushkhera-Karoli industrial area of Bhiwadi, Khairthal-Tijara district, Rajasthan, on Monday, February 16, 2026. The incident, which occurred in the morning, prompted immediate rescue operations by local authorities and fire services.
Police on routine patrol first noticed the blaze, leading to a swift response. Fire tenders from the Khushkhera and Bhiwadi RIICO fire stations were dispatched to the scene, battling the intense flames for over an hour and a half. Initial reports indicated that around 20 to 25 workers were present in the factory when the fire broke out, with several managing to escape while others were trapped.
Investigation Underway into Fire's Cause
The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation. However, preliminary findings suggest that the factory, reportedly leased out for garment manufacturing, was allegedly involved in the illegal production of firecrackers. Eyewitnesses reported hearing loud explosions, and it is believed that a large quantity of highly combustible materials, including gunpowder, firecrackers, and cardboard, were stored inside the premises, contributing to the rapid spread and intensity of the fire.
Additional District Magistrate Sumitra Mishra and District Collector Artika Shukla were among the senior officials who rushed to the site to oversee rescue and relief efforts. A judicial inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the fire and examine any potential lapses in safety standards.
Official Reactions and Condolences
The tragic incident has drawn condolences from across the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the fire as 'tragic and deeply saddening' on social media. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma expressed profound grief over the loss of lives and instructed the district administration to ensure comprehensive medical treatment for the injured and provide immediate relief to the victims' families. Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot also conveyed his sorrow, emphasizing the need to prevent such unfortunate accidents.
The deceased workers, some of whom were reportedly migrant laborers from Bihar's Motihari district, were charred beyond recognition, with rescue teams collecting remains from the debris. The factory owner, identified as Rajendra, and manager, Abhinandan, are part of the ongoing investigation.

While the quick response by emergency services is appreciated, it's alarming that an illegal firecracker operation could run undetected for so long under the guise of garment manufacturing.

Migrant workers are always exploited and put at risk. It's an outrage.
