Paris Public Transport Faces Week-Long Disruptions for Modernization Work

Public transportation in Paris and the wider Île-de-France region is undergoing a period of significant disruption from Monday, February 2, to Sunday, February 8, 2026. The disruptions, affecting metro, RER, Transilien, and tramway networks, are a result of ongoing modernization and maintenance work carried out by operators RATP and SNCF. Commuters are advised to anticipate cancellations and delays across various lines throughout the week.

Metro and RER Lines Impacted

Several key metro lines are experiencing service adjustments. Metro Line 1 will see service suspended along its entire length every Sunday from 10 PM until February 15, and every Wednesday from 10 PM until March 11, due to nighttime work connecting it to Line 12. Metro Line 14 is scheduled for a complete service interruption until 2 PM on February 8 for modernization, with replacement bus services available between Gare de Lyon and Olympiades. Additionally, Metro Line 12 will have service suspended every Sunday from 10 PM until February 15. On the RER network, RER C is facing significant outages throughout the week and on weekends, including no service at Issy until March 8. RER B is undergoing a lengthy maintenance campaign through May, with nightly closures towards the airport (between Châtelet and CDG2 Airport / Mitry - Claye) starting at 10:45 PM on weeknights.

Tramway Services and Modernization Efforts

Tramway users are also affected by the ongoing works. Tram T1 service remains suspended between Asnières-Quatre Routes and Gare de Saint-Denis due to damage caused by a third party at L'Île-Saint-Denis, with service expected to resume by summer 2026. Tram T2 has service interrupted between Porte de Versailles and Suzanne Lenglen until the end of February 2026 for modernization work, with replacement buses provided. Furthermore, Tram T13 is experiencing service interruptions in both directions from 10 PM until the end of service, Monday to Friday, also due to construction works. The modernization projects are part of broader initiatives by Île-de-France Mobilités, RATP, Transilien, and SNCF Voyageurs to enhance network reliability by 2030. These efforts include preparing for the NExTEO system, an automatic pilot tool aimed at improving performance, and conducting track renewals to address wear from high usage.

Commuter Advisory

Authorities strongly advise all passengers to consult official RATP and SNCF platforms, such as the Bonjour RATP and SNCF Connect apps, and their respective websites, to check real-time schedules and plan alternative routes before commencing their journeys.

The promise of NExTEO and enhanced reliability sounds great, but the lack of adequate alternative transport during these prolonged works is a major headache for many.

Why can't RATP and SNCF plan these disruptions better? It's chaos!

It's frustrating to face these disruptions, but I understand the need for modern infrastructure to keep the city running efficiently in the long term.

Investing in future transport is vital for Paris; however, the simultaneous closures across so many lines feel like an overly aggressive schedule that could have been spread out more strategically.

Another week of endless delays and cancellations. Paris transport is a joke.
