Quobly Expands North American Footprint with New Canadian Base

Quobly, a leading French company in silicon-based quantum computing, officially announced the establishment of its Canadian subsidiary in Sherbrooke, Quebec, on January 30, 2026. This strategic expansion is set to significantly strengthen the company's research capabilities, technology integration efforts, and industrial partnerships across North America.

The decision to locate in Sherbrooke was driven by the region's recognized excellence in quantum technologies. Sherbrooke offers a unique concentration of expertise in silicon spin qubits, advanced manufacturing, and critical cryogenic infrastructure. The subsidiary will benefit from its proximity to key institutions such as Université de Sherbrooke, C2MI, and the DistriQ quantum innovation hub.

Strategic Objectives and Local Integration

Quobly's Canadian operation aims to accelerate the commercial deployment of its quantum computing solutions by integrating into Quebec's structured ecosystem, which encompasses training, software development, and early industrial use cases. The company plans to build a dedicated local team, with an objective to recruit approximately ten engineers and researchers over the next two to three years. These new hires will support localized research and development, system integration, and collaborative projects aligned with Quobly's roadmap for fault-tolerant quantum computing.

The expansion specifically targets the 'materials-to-manufacturing' bottleneck in quantum technology by facilitating hybrid approaches that combine classical high-performance computing (HPC) with quantum processing units. This presence in Quebec will also enable Quobly to engage with Montreal's software ecosystem to optimize the middleware layers essential for fault-tolerant operations.

Quobly's Pioneering Quantum Technology

Founded in November 2022 in Grenoble, France, Quobly emerged from over 15 years of collaborative research between world-class institutions CEA-Leti and CNRS. The company specializes in developing silicon-based quantum chips, leveraging proven semiconductor manufacturing processes. Its approach utilizes silicon spin qubits fabricated with standard CMOS/VLSI semiconductor processes and Fully Depleted Silicon-On-Insulator (FD-SOI) technology.

Quobly has garnered significant investment, raising €19 million in a seed round in 2023 and an additional €21 million in 2025 to advance its Q100T program. The company also holds a strategic partnership with STMicroelectronics, aimed at accelerating the industrialization of its silicon quantum chips and achieving its ambitious goal of breaking the 1-million-qubit barrier by 2031.
