Banyan Group Marks Dominican Republic Debut
The global hospitality company, Banyan Group, is making its official entry into the Dominican Republic with the planned opening of two new resorts in the popular Punta Cana area. The new properties, Angsana Cap Cana and Cassia Punta Cana, are slated to open in 2026, signifying a notable expansion for the group in one of the Caribbean's most active resort markets. This move will introduce both traditional resort experiences and extended-stay offerings to the destination, catering to a diverse range of travelers.
Angsana Cap Cana: A Focus on Wellness and Luxury
The Angsana brand will establish its presence in the exclusive Cap Cana community, a high-profile enclave on the eastern edge of the Dominican Republic. Angsana Cap Cana is designed as a contemporary, design-forward resort with a strong emphasis on wellness. Guests can anticipate a premier destination for relaxation and adventure, featuring spacious villas, a world-class spa, and a variety of recreational activities. The resort will offer up to 296 branded residences, many with privileged views of a Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course, and will be just steps away from Juanillo Beach. This property aims to provide a blend of upscale accommodations, rejuvenating spa treatments, and sophisticated leisure options.
Cassia Punta Cana: Extended Stays with Residential Comforts
Alongside the Angsana property, Banyan Group will introduce Cassia Punta Cana, expanding the extended-stay segment in the region. Located in Bávaro, near Los Corales Beach, within the Secret Garden project, this resort is tailored for longer visits, blending comprehensive hotel services with residential-style accommodations. It is designed to appeal to travelers seeking greater flexibility and space, including those combining leisure with remote work. Cassia Punta Cana will feature 64 hotel suites and up to 278 branded residences. Amenities will include:
- A spacious 1800 m² pool with a bar
- A spa and multifunctional gym
- Yoga area, pickleball, and beach volleyball courts
- Mini-golf and a children's play area
- On-site restaurants, a café, and a commercial zone
- Coworking spaces and lounge areas
The resort is described as a 5-star boutique condo-hotel project, offering furnished and equipped suites with options for direct access to private pools or poolside snack bars.
Strategic Expansion in a Growing Market
Banyan Group's entry into the Dominican Republic, in partnership with Gesproin Group, signifies a strategic move to capitalize on the country's fast-growing tourism sector. The introduction of these two distinct brands reinforces Punta Cana's position as a premier destination for luxury hospitality and diverse travel experiences. This expansion is part of Banyan Group's broader growth strategy, which includes new openings across Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East in 2026.

The addition of spas, coworking spaces, and varied amenities sounds appealing to many travelers. Yet, the long-term economic benefits should be carefully weighed against potential social disruptions and rising cost of living for locals.

It's great to see investment in the DR, offering diverse options like extended stays. However, the focus on luxury and residences could make the area less accessible or affordable for the general public over time.

Luxury 'branded residences' are just a way to push out locals and inflate property values.

Another foreign company taking over local land. What about the actual Dominican people?

More resorts mean more waste and more pressure on natural resources. Not sustainable.
