Major Explosives Haul in Nagaur District
In a significant operation ahead of Republic Day 2026, Rajasthan Police have seized a massive cache of explosives, totaling nearly 10,000 kg, from a farmhouse in the Harsaur village of Nagaur district. The raid, conducted late on Saturday, January 24, 2026, led to the arrest of one individual, Suleman Khan, aged 58, a resident of the same village.
Details of the Seizure and Arrest
Nagaur Superintendent of Police Mridul Kachhawa stated that the police acted on a tip-off, recovering 9,550 kg of ammonium nitrate packed in 187 sacks. In addition to the ammonium nitrate, authorities also confiscated a large quantity of explosive accessories, including:
- Nine cartons of detonators
- 12 cartons and 15 bundles of blue fuse wire
- 12 cartons and five bundles of red fuse wire
- Detonator wires, 'gullas', dudet material, wooden cartons, and packets of APSOD explosive substances
Investigation Underway Amidst Heightened Alert
The operation was carried out by a joint team comprising the District Special Team (DST) and personnel from the Thawla police station. This seizure is being described as potentially the largest of its kind in Rajasthan. A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Explosives Act. The incident comes at a time of heightened security alerts across India, particularly ahead of Republic Day. Officials noted that ammonium nitrate has been linked to major blast cases in the past, including an explosion near Delhi's Red Fort in November 2025. Central agencies have been informed about the significant recovery and are expected to join the investigation, with plans to question Suleman Khan as part of a broader probe into the supply network.

Mining explosives? Convenient excuse. There's more to this story.

So easy to get 10,000 kg of explosives? That's the real problem here.

Always a 'major haul' right before a big event. Coincidence?

It's commendable that the police acted on intelligence and made an arrest, yet the mention of the accused's previous criminal cases raises questions about why he was still operating. Law enforcement needs to be more consistent.
