Military Police Seize Extensive Arsenal in Sumaré
A 54-year-old man was arrested in Sumaré, São Paulo, during the early hours of Saturday, January 10, 2026, after military police uncovered a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition at his residence. The operation, which took place on Estrada Municipal Ângelo Furian, resulted in the seizure of 23 firearms and approximately 11,700 rounds of various calibers.
Threat Complaint Leads to Discovery
The police action was initiated following a complaint of threats made by the man's nephew. The victim reported being intimidated by his uncle and informed authorities that the suspect possessed a large quantity of weapons at his home. Upon arrival at the address, police were met by the homeowner, who reportedly did not resist.
Details of the Seized Weapons
During the search, officers located a diverse array of weaponry. The confiscated firearms included:
- Eight carbines
- Five pistols
- Three revolvers
- Two shotguns
- Two rifles
- Two garruchas
- One escopeta
Authorities confirmed that while the man presented documentation for eight of the weapons, the remaining firearms were found to be without proper registration or legal authorization. The suspect was identified as a CAC (Caçador, Atirador e Colecionador – Hunter, Shooter, and Collector), but his certificate was reportedly revoked, rendering his possession of the weapons irregular.
Charges Filed and Significance of the Seizure
The case has been registered at the Sumaré Police Station, with charges including illegal possession or carrying of restricted-use firearms, threat, and location and seizure of objects. The man was arrested in flagrante.
This operation marks one of the largest seizures in the history of the 48th BPMI (Batalhão de Policiamento Militar do Interior) and is considered the largest of its kind in the region for the current year.

While the number of illegal firearms is concerning and the police acted on a threat, we need to ensure due process for all citizens, even those with revoked licenses.

This seems like a witch hunt against gun owners. They're always looking for reasons to take them.

Unbelievable cache! Good riddance, these weapons belong nowhere near civilians.

The right to own firearms for self-defense is fundamental. Don't let bureaucracy strip it away.

The sheer volume of weapons is alarming, and proper registration is crucial. But for legitimate collectors, the process shouldn't be so complex it leads to these situations.

A threat complaint led to this? Imagine what he could have done. Glad he's off the streets.
