UAE Unveils Ambitious Global Trade Program
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, officially launched the 'UAE Global Centre of Trade' program on Thursday, November 20, 2025. This strategic initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Foreign Trade, is designed to significantly enhance the United Arab Emirates' position as a pivotal hub for international commerce and a global gateway for goods and services.
The program's primary objective is to attract the world's top 1,000 international trading companies to establish their presence in the UAE. Sheikh Mohammed stated, 'We launched an international economic program to reinforce the UAE's global standing in foreign trade. The program aims to attract the world's top 1,000 international trading companies and introduce a digital gateway that connects thousands of UAE exporters to global markets.' He further emphasized that the initiative will generate more opportunities for Emirati products, unveil new export destinations, and solidify the UAE's central role in global trade routes.
Key Pillars of the Program
The 'UAE Global Centre of Trade' program encompasses a suite of visionary initiatives aimed at bolstering the nation's foreign trade agenda. These include:
- Attracting International Trading Companies: The program will actively work to bring 1,000 new global trading firms to establish their headquarters in the UAE, utilizing advanced analytics to identify high-demand markets and sectors.
- UAE Export Portal: A dedicated digital platform will be developed to connect thousands of UAE exporting companies with global markets, providing access to customs guidance, market insights, and new opportunities.
- Capacity Building: The 'Ready2Trade' initiative will offer online and offline modules to train and build the capacity of over 10,000 companies in the UAE, enabling them to compete effectively on a global scale.
- Global Promotion: 'UAE Trade Days' will be organized in select countries to showcase Emirati products and services, fostering sustainable customer-buyer networks and facilitating business meetings.
Strengthening Non-Oil Trade and Economic Growth
The launch of this program comes at a time of significant growth in the UAE's non-oil trade sector. In the first nine months of 2025, the UAE recorded AED 2.67 trillion in non-oil trade, marking a substantial 24.6 percent increase year-on-year. Non-oil exports during the same period reached AED 579.4 billion, demonstrating a 42.6 percent rise compared to the previous year. Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Foreign Trade, highlighted that the program reflects the UAE leadership's belief that trade is a crucial catalyst for economic growth, development, and diversification.
Collaborative Effort for a Global Future
The 'UAE Global Centre of Trade' will be led and implemented by the Ministry of Foreign Trade in close collaboration with a wide array of strategic partners. These include various ministries, federal and local government agencies, national institutions, and private-sector entities. This collaborative approach underscores the country's commitment to strengthening its global economic standing and reinforcing its position as a major hub for international trade flows.

It's great to see a digital portal for exporters, offering market insights and access. Yet, the success hinges on how effectively small and medium-sized local enterprises can leverage these tools and compete with established international giants.

Too ambitious. Attracting 1,000 companies is easier said than done.

The emphasis on non-oil trade growth is commendable and necessary for diversification. However, ensuring these new global players truly integrate and benefit the broader local economy, beyond just trade volumes, is crucial for equitable development.

Boosting non-oil trade is crucial. This program is exactly what's needed.

Another initiative, but will it truly impact everyday citizens? Skeptical.
