Kyrgyzstan Raises Pensions to Average of 11,226 Soms Starting October 1, 2025

Pensions Increased Across Kyrgyzstan

Starting October 1, 2025, pensions in Kyrgyzstan have been increased, with the national average pension now reaching 11,226 soms. This measure, implemented by the Social Fund of the Kyrgyz Republic and approved by the Cabinet of Ministers, aims to enhance the living standards of the country's pensioners.

Details of the Indexation

The pension increase is a result of the annual indexation of the insurance part of pensions. The mechanism for this increase is structured as follows:

  • For insurance parts of pensions not exceeding 50,000 soms, an indexation coefficient of 1.1 was applied, resulting in a 10% increase. The minimum increase for this category is set at 600 soms.
  • For pensions with an insurance part exceeding 50,000 soms, the increase was capped at 5,000 soms.

Additionally, for new pensions assigned from October 1, 2025, the total amount, including the basic part, must not be lower than the pensioner's subsistence minimum from the previous year, which is approximately 7,100 soms.

Impact and Financial Allocation

This latest pension adjustment will benefit more than 818,700 pensioners across Kyrgyzstan. The estimated cost for this indexation is approximately 2.04 billion soms (specifically, 2,043,874.4 billion soms), which will be allocated from the budget of the Social Fund. The decision to increase pensions was made to further support the standard of living for retirees, taking into account factors such as the growth of the average wage and the consumer price index.

Broader Context of Pension Reforms

This increase follows previous adjustments to the pension system. For instance, on October 1, 2023, the average pension reached 9,354 soms after an indexation. Another increase in October 2024 saw the average pension reach 10,547 soms. The consistent efforts reflect the government's ongoing commitment to improving social welfare and ensuring that pensions provide a standard of living not lower than the legal minimum subsistence level.

While any increase is certainly welcome for pensioners, the actual impact on their daily expenses, especially with rising food and utility costs, might not be as significant as hoped. We need to ensure these increases genuinely improve quality of life.

Still not enough to live comfortably. It's barely a subsistence wage.

Pensions keeping up with inflation is crucial. Well done!

Inflation will just eat this increase away within months. It's a temporary fix.
