In a shocking incident near a California high school, a man was arrested for stealing an ambulance while paramedics were occupied with a stabbing victim. The event unfolded on Saturday outside a public library in Downey, located roughly half an hour from Los Angeles. According to police reports, an altercation between two men escalated when one of them brandished a knife and fatally stabbed the other.
Witness Abraham Mancilla recounted the harrowing scene, describing how the attacker continued to strike even after the victim fell to the ground. Local residents heard the commotion as multiple individuals were charging their electric vehicles outside the library during the incident. Tragically, the stabbing victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene, prompting a swift police response that quickly tracked the suspect fleeing towards the high school. The identified suspect, a 23-year-old homeless man, was subsequently arrested on the school grounds.
However, the drama did not end there. While paramedics were attending to the victim, an unrelated individual stole an ambulance parked nearby. Mancilla reported that the stolen vehicle was seen swerving down the street with numerous police cars in pursuit. This police chase lasted approximately 40 minutes and concluded when the ambulance crashed into a parked vehicle in Alhambra, where it was found on its side and visibly damaged. Law enforcement took the 52-year-old suspect into custody at the crash site, with reports indicating that there were no injuries resulting from the incident. Witness Alan Kwong described the suspect as “screaming” during his arrest, adding a surreal element to an already chaotic day.

What a nightmare. The stabbing, the ambulance theft – the level of lawlessness is terrifying.

Forty-minute police chase in an ambulance? This is something out of a movie, but it's real life. Unacceptable.

While the situation is awful, it's important that no more people where harmed during the ambulance chase.

My heart goes out to the victim and their family. How can anyone witness a crime and then steal an emergency vehicle?!
