President Xi Jinping, also holding the positions of General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, has sent his greetings to teachers and educators throughout the nation in anticipation of Teachers' Day.
In a personal letter addressed to eight rural teachers, President Xi encouraged them to focus on improving their teaching abilities. He emphasized the importance of cultivating young people who possess strong moral values, intellectual capabilities, physical health, an appreciation for aesthetics, and the practical skills necessary to contribute to the socialist cause.
The letter was a response to a group of eight representatives from the Special-Post Teachers Program. This program, funded by the central government, has deployed approximately 1.18 million college graduates to teach in rural areas located in central and western China since 2006. The program has a significant reach, encompassing over 30,000 schools across more than 1,000 counties in 22 provincial-level regions.
President Xi acknowledged the dedication and sense of responsibility demonstrated by the teachers involved in the program over the past two decades. He urged them to remain committed to their educational goals and to guide children towards healthy development.
Premier Li Qiang, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, issued instructions on the program. He called upon teachers and educators to serve where their country and its people require them most, and to further contribute to the development of a robust educational system.

This 'special program' still emphasizes government oversight over teacher autonomy. It's a one-size-fits-all approach.

Why are we focusing on aesthetics? Education should prioritize knowledge and skills over superficial qualities.

Why are we deploying college graduates to rural areas? They should be able to find jobs in urban centers instead!
