On September 3, Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya addressed the audience at the 12th convocation ceremony of Down Town University. He urged educational institutions to contribute to the character building of students by finding a balance between contemporary knowledge and traditional values. The Governor recognized the university's accomplishments, noting its dynamic nature as exemplified by the signing of 278 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) at both national and international levels.
While acknowledging the growth and advancement of higher education across India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, Governor Acharya stated that Indian institutions are increasingly emerging in global rankings, with Indian graduates making notable strides in various academic, research, and commercial fields. He encouraged students to harness their potential on both national and global stages and called for faculty innovation in teaching methods to motivate students towards creativity and scientific exploration that benefits society.
The Governor placed significant emphasis on the value of experiential learning, advocating that at least 20 percent of education should occur outside of the traditional classroom setup in a project-based approach. He highlighted the pivotal role of the youth, skill development, and technology in shaping the future of the country, while also underscoring the need for ethics, discipline, and a commitment to service.
During the ceremony, Dr. Randeep Guleria received an honorary D.Sc. degree, and Dr. Sri Sri Pitambar Dev Goswami was awarded a D.Litt. Additionally, 1417 undergraduates, 419 post-graduates, and 22 PhD students were conferred degrees. Governor Acharya expressed his heartfelt congratulations to the graduates and acknowledged the roles of their parents, teachers, and research supervisors in their educational journey. He concluded by noting that the university's current stature is a testament to the collective efforts of the entire academic community.
