Budget Highlights and Financial Allocations
The West Bengal government presented its state budget for the 2024-25 financial year, focusing on infrastructure development and employee welfare. Dearness Allowance Increase
A significant announcement in the budget was the decision to provide an additional 4% Dearness Allowance (DA) to state government employees and pensioners. This hike is intended to provide relief against inflation. New Greenfield Airport Project
In a move to enhance regional connectivity and promote industrial growth, the state government announced plans to construct a new greenfield airport near Kalyani in the Nadia district. The project is envisioned to reduce the burden on the existing Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata and improve air travel accessibility for the northern and central parts of the state. Officials noted that the site selection and feasibility studies are currently underway to expedite the development process.

Beyond the airport and DA hike, the budget emphasized continued investment in social welfare schemes and infrastructure projects. The government reiterated its commitment to ongoing programs, aiming to balance fiscal responsibility with the need for sustained development across West Bengal.
