Belarus and Uzbekistan Ink Nearly $110 Million in Trade Deals During Official Visit

High-Level Delegation Strengthens Economic Ties

A Belarusian government delegation, headed by Prime Minister Alexander Turchin, recently concluded a productive official visit to Uzbekistan from February 23 to February 25, 2026. The visit culminated in the signing of new contracts and agreements valued at nearly $110 million, underscoring both nations' commitment to expanding economic cooperation.

During his visit, Prime Minister Turchin engaged in high-level discussions with Uzbekistan's Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov and President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. These meetings focused on deepening bilateral cooperation and implementing previously agreed-upon initiatives.

Diverse Sectors Benefit from New Agreements

The newly signed contracts and agreements cover a wide array of economic sectors, reflecting the diverse nature of the growing partnership. Key areas of collaboration include:

  • Mechanical engineering and agricultural machinery
  • Textiles and light industry
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Construction
  • Food production
  • Exchange trade
  • Logistics

Specific Belarusian companies, such as Vitebsk Carpets and Milavitsa, are set to supply products to Uzbekistan, with discussions also involving deliveries from Mogotex and Orsha Linen Mill. Furthermore, a strategic partnership agreement was formalized between the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange (BUCE) and the Uzbek Commodity Exchange (UzEx), aiming to enhance mutual trade in agricultural, metallurgical, woodworking, and textile products.

Ambitious Trade Targets Set for 2030

A significant outcome of the visit was the reaffirmation of an ambitious goal to increase the bilateral trade turnover between Belarus and Uzbekistan to $2 billion by 2030. Currently, the trade volume between the two countries is approaching $1 billion, having seen a 25% increase in the previous year.

The Belarusian delegation also visited industrial enterprises in Samarkand and Tashkent, including the Samarkand Automobile Plant (SamAuto) and the production facilities of the Servolux group, which is involved in an agro-industrial complex specializing in poultry meat and feed production. The 5th meeting of the Uzbekistan–Belarus Business Council, held in Tashkent, served as a crucial platform for fostering direct partnerships and exploring joint investment projects.

Future Cooperation and Roadmap Development

Both nations are preparing a bilateral roadmap for cooperation in anticipation of an upcoming visit by Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Belarus. This roadmap is expected to outline priority areas and concrete mechanisms for expanding trade and investment ties, building on the momentum generated by the recent visit.

It's good to see these countries seeking economic independence and regional strength, but the political contexts in both nations raise questions about transparency and long-term stability. Sustainable growth requires more than just trade agreements.

Empty promises and inflated figures, as usual. Where's the real impact?
