AECOM Awarded Key Irish Transport Contracts
AECOM, a global infrastructure consulting firm, announced on February 25, 2026, that it has secured significant cost management appointments with both the National Transport Authority (NTA) and Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII). These strategic wins will see AECOM support the planning and delivery of major transport and mobility infrastructure projects of national importance across Ireland.
Strategic Appointments for National Infrastructure
Following a competitive tender process, AECOM has been designated as the single source provider for the NTA's infrastructure cost management framework. This comprehensive role encompasses a full spectrum of cost management services, including cost estimation, risk management, value management, peer review of services from other companies, and the development of cost management guidelines and procedures. This framework is established for a period of three years, with an option for an additional year's extension.
Concurrently, AECOM has also been appointed to TII's multi-party framework for the provision of commercial services. This appointment includes cost management, claim advisory, claims mitigation, and expert witness services. The scope of this framework is broad and holds the potential to expand into areas such as engineering and project management. This particular framework is slated to operate for four years, providing support to TII alongside Ireland's network of regional design offices and local authorities.
Ciaran Timpson, AECOM's Cost Management Infrastructure Lead for Ireland, stated that these contract awards represent a 'significant strategic milestone' for the company. He highlighted that these agreements strengthen AECOM's relationships with both the NTA and TII, granting them access to AECOM's 'industry leading commercial, technical and cost management expertise' to ensure 'greater certainty, efficiency and value' in the delivery of complex national infrastructure programmes.
AECOM's Role in Optimising Project Delivery
As a trusted global leader in infrastructure, AECOM specializes in providing professional services across the entire project lifecycle, from advisory and planning to design, engineering, and construction management. The firm's approach to cost management, particularly through its quantity surveying services, focuses on fostering a collaborative culture within project teams to optimize client funds. This commitment aims to deliver smarter, quicker, and more cost-effective solutions at every stage of a project, ensuring maximum value for clients.
Enhancing Ireland's Transport Network
The National Transport Authority (NTA) is a statutory non-commercial body responsible for developing and implementing strategies to provide high-quality, accessible, and sustainable transport services across Ireland. Its remit includes planning, procuring, and overseeing public transport, as well as collaborating with local authorities on active travel infrastructure.
Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) is a state agency tasked with the delivery and operation of safe and efficient transport infrastructure services, encompassing the country's national road and light rail networks. TII manages Ireland's national road network, greenways, and the Luas light rail system, and is the sponsoring agency for major projects like MetroLink. These new contracts with AECOM are expected to contribute significantly to the ongoing development and enhancement of Ireland's critical transport infrastructure, supporting national connectivity and sustainable economic growth.

Why do we need a global company to tell us how to manage our own transport costs? We have local experts.

"Cost management" usually means more consultant fees. Watch the budget balloon anyway.

Hope they actually deliver. So many promises, so little tangible improvement on the ground.

Having AECOM provide expertise in areas like risk and value management is a smart strategic move for Ireland's transport network. But the challenge will be to integrate their services seamlessly with existing structures, ensuring the benefits outweigh the costs and truly enhance project efficiency without creating new bottlenecks.
