Kingdom Expands Premium Residency Initiative
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has announced the approval of 1,028 government and semi-government entities to classify eligible non-Saudi employees under its 'Exceptional Talent Premium Residency' product. This strategic move is designed to attract highly qualified professionals across scientific, administrative, and research sectors, aiming to enhance local capabilities and facilitate knowledge transfer within the country. In addition to the government sector, 3,484 private-sector establishments have also received approval for their employees to apply for the same residency category, provided they meet the specified criteria.
Targeting High-Caliber Professionals
The 'Exceptional Talent' product specifically targets individuals whose expertise can significantly contribute to Saudi Arabia's development goals. This includes researchers, executives, and scientific and healthcare professionals. The initiative seeks to ensure their professional and family stability in the Kingdom, thereby supporting innovation and institutional development across various public and private entities.
Benefits and Eligibility Criteria
Holders of the Exceptional Talent residency, along with their family members—including parents, spouses, and children up to the age of 25—are entitled to a comprehensive suite of benefits. These include:
- Exemption from expatriate and dependent fees
- Self-sponsored exit and re-entry without a visa
- Access to dedicated lanes for Saudi and GCC citizens at ports of entry
- Freedom to change employers
- Permission for family members to work in the private sector
- Property ownership and the ability to conduct business activities in accordance with the Investment Law
- Eligibility to apply for permanent residency upon meeting required conditions
Eligibility for the program is structured across different professional tracks with specific requirements. For instance, researchers must earn at least SR14,000 per month, hold a work contract in a priority specialization, have a minimum of three years of experience, and submit three specialized research papers. Scientific and healthcare professionals need to earn at least SR35,000 per month, possess a minimum of three years of experience in a priority field, and pass an approved points-based evaluation system. Executive leadership roles, limited to first- and second-tier positions in government or semi-government entities, require a minimum monthly salary of SR80,000 and an official recommendation letter from their employer. The residency is granted for five years and is renewable, with a pathway to permanent residency after residing in the Kingdom for at least 30 months within five consecutive or non-consecutive years, provided eligibility criteria continue to be met. The application fee for this residency product is SR4,000.
