New Air Link Between Croatia and Lithuania
Ryanair, Europe's largest low-cost carrier, has introduced a new direct flight service connecting Zadar, Croatia, with Kaunas, Lithuania. This new route is scheduled to operate throughout the summer season, specifically from June to September. The flights will establish a direct air bridge between the two cities, offering travelers a convenient option for exploring both destinations.
Flight Details and Schedule
The new service will feature seven flights per week, providing regular connectivity between Zadar Airport (ZAD) and Kaunas Airport (KUN). The average flight time for this route is approximately 2 hours and 10 minutes to 2 hours and 15 minutes. Ryanair will deploy its Boeing 737 aircraft for these operations. This addition is part of Ryanair's broader expansion of its summer schedule for Kaunas, which also includes new routes to Berlin and Pisa.
Strategic Importance for Regional Connectivity
The introduction of the Zadar-Kaunas route underscores Ryanair's continued investment in both Croatian and Lithuanian markets. Kaunas Airport (KUN) serves as Lithuania's second-busiest airport and a significant operational base for Ryanair. Similarly, Zadar Airport (ZAD) is a key hub for the airline in Croatia, where Ryanair maintains a substantial share of the airport's capacity. This new connection aims to boost tourism and facilitate easier travel between the Baltic and Adriatic regions.
Kaunas Airport's Growing Role
Kaunas Airport has been experiencing consistent growth, surpassing its pre-pandemic traffic figures since 2022. The airport is also a hub for aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services, with Ryanair Engineering being one of the providers. The airport is undergoing an expansion to double its capacity, aiming to accommodate two million passengers and 15,000 annual aircraft movements, with completion expected in the second half of 2025.

The expansion of Kaunas Airport and new routes are signs of growth, which is good for jobs. Yet, increased air traffic brings legitimate concerns about noise pollution and carbon emissions for local communities.

Another low-cost carrier route, probably with inconvenient flight times.

More tourists mean more overcrowding in Zadar. Not always a good thing.
