High-Speed Collision on VIP Road
Kanpur, India – A luxury Lamborghini, reportedly driven by Shivam Mishra, son of tobacco tycoon K.K. Mishra, was involved in a high-speed accident on Sunday, February 8, 2026, on the VIP Road in Kanpur's upscale Gwaltoli area. The incident, which occurred around 3:15 PM near Rev-3 Mall, left at least six people injured and caused damage to multiple vehicles.
Eyewitnesses reported that the speeding black Lamborghini veered out of control, first striking an auto-rickshaw. It then crashed into a parked Royal Enfield motorcycle, reportedly flinging its rider approximately 10 feet into the air. The car subsequently dragged the motorcycle for some distance before colliding with an electric pole, where it came to a halt. Pedestrians were also struck during the chaotic sequence of events.
Injuries and Medical Claims
Among the injured, Taufiq, a resident of Yamunaganj, sustained serious leg injuries, while Sonu Tripathi reported fractures and bruises. Other victims suffered various injuries, including fractured limbs and leg wounds. All injured individuals were transported to nearby private hospitals for treatment. Authorities have stated that while some injuries are serious, none are currently believed to be life-threatening.
Following the crash, the family of Shivam Mishra claimed that he suffered a sudden seizure while driving, leading to the loss of control. Deputy Commissioner of Police Atul Srivastava stated that authorities are investigating this claim, including whether Mishra has a documented medical history of seizures.
Controversies and Police Investigation
The accident has drawn significant public attention and controversy. Reports indicate that bouncers accompanying Shivam Mishra allegedly pulled him from the damaged vehicle and attempted to prevent onlookers from recording the incident. There have been allegations of 'VIP treatment' and claims that police initially went 'soft' on the accused due due to his family's influence.
A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered under relevant sections of BNS 2023, including sections 281, 125 (a), 125 (b), and 324 (4). The investigation has been assigned to Sub-Inspector Dinesh Kumar. However, initial reports sparked controversy as the FIR reportedly did not name the driver. Police officials later confirmed Shivam Mishra as the driver and seized the Lamborghini. As of now, no arrests have been made.
The Mishra family, prominent in the tobacco industry, has faced scrutiny previously. K.K. Mishra's company, Banshidhar Exports Pvt Ltd (also known as Banshidhar Tobacco Group), which supplies raw materials to gutkha manufacturers, was subject to Income Tax Department raids in March 2024. These raids, conducted across multiple locations including Kanpur, Delhi, Mumbai, and Gujarat, reportedly uncovered financial irregularities and led to the seizure of cash and documents.

The media loves a rich vs. poor narrative. Don't fall for it.

While the injuries are serious and accountability is crucial, linking this directly to the family's tobacco business history feels like a distraction from the accident itself, though it adds to public perception.

Let the police investigate fully. Don't prejudge based on wealth.
