Anti-Fascist Protests Erupt in Sentmenat
On Saturday, January 10, 2026, hundreds of anti-fascist protesters gathered in Sentmenat, Catalonia, to demonstrate against the opening of a new headquarters for the ultranationalist group Núcleo Nacional. The protest, which drew between 300 and 1,000 demonstrators, took place in an industrial estate approximately 30 kilometers from Barcelona, where the far-right group had established its new base.
Núcleo Nacional: An Ultranationalist Presence
Núcleo Nacional is identified as an ultranationalist, far-right organization with openly xenophobic, racist, and anti-democratic rhetoric, reportedly defending ideas linked to Francoist and fascist traditions. The group was officially founded in April 2024 and emerged from protests against the amnesty law in Madrid in November 2023. Authorities have previously investigated members of Núcleo Nacional for potential hate crimes and the glorification of fascism. The group had kept the exact location of its new headquarters secret until hours before the event, announcing it on social media with a message expressing their intent to 'angry the reds, progressives, and independence supporters.'
Clashes with Police and Injuries Reported
The demonstration escalated into moments of tension and clashes between the protesters and the Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia's police force. Police reportedly charged at the anti-fascist, pro-independence, and anarchist activists after they allegedly attacked the police line with stones, containers, and pyrotechnics. As a result of these confrontations, between four and six Mossos d'Esquadra agents were reported injured. Despite the disturbances, the Núcleo Nacional headquarters proceeded with its opening. No arrests were immediately reported following the event.

While it's important to oppose far-right ideologies, the violence against police officers is completely unacceptable and undermines the message.

Attacking police? That's not protesting, that's crime.

Núcleo Nacional is a disgrace. Glad people showed up.

Police should be protecting citizens, not fascists.

The police were in a tough spot, needing to maintain order while also allowing free expression, yet the level of injury reported is worrying.
