Distinguished Political Career
Rocha's political career was marked by significant achievements and pioneering efforts. She served as a councilwoman in Piracicaba from 1993 to 1996. Beyond her role in the legislative branch, she also held key executive positions, including Municipal Secretary of Administration and Chief of Staff for the Mayor. A foundational figure, Esther Rocha was actively involved in the formation of the Workers' Party (PT) in Brazil. In 1996, she made history as the first woman to run for Mayor of Piracicaba. Her dedication to the city was formally recognized when she received the 'Medalha de Mérito Legislativo' (Legislative Merit Medal), the highest honor bestowed by the Piracicaba City Council.

She graduated with a degree in History from USP (University of São Paulo) and began her teaching career in 1970. Over three decades, she educated countless students, teaching for 22 years at the 'José de Mello Moraes' state school and 7 years at 'CLQ'. She retired in 1991 as a school director, having completed 30 years of service in the educational field. Rocha was also a member of APEOESP, a prominent teachers' union.

Born in Chavantes, São Paulo, Esther Rocha moved to Piracicaba in 1970, a city she adopted and which, in turn, adopted her, granting her the title of 'Cidadã Piracicabana' (Piracicaba Citizen) in 1995. She was married to Antonio Celso C. da Rocha and had two sons, Fausto and Celsinho. The cause of her death has not been publicly disclosed. The wake for Esther Rocha is scheduled to begin on Monday, December 29, 2025, at 8:00 AM, in the Sala Esmeralda of the Velório do Crematório Memorial Metropolitano de Piracicaba, followed by cremation. Her passing has prompted an outpouring of tributes from former students and colleagues, highlighting her elegance, firmness, and profound influence as an educator and public servant.
