Vietnam Boosts Accessibility with Major E-Visa Expansion
Hanoi, Vietnam – Vietnam has announced a substantial expansion of its electronic visa (e-visa) program, adding 41 new international checkpoints for foreign nationals. This latest move brings the total number of e-visa entry and exit points across the country to 83, significantly enhancing accessibility for international travelers. The expansion was formalized under Resolution 389/NQ-CP, issued by the government on December 2, 2025.
The initiative is part of Vietnam's broader strategy to facilitate foreign visitors, stimulate tourism, and strengthen its position as a competitive travel and investment destination in Southeast Asia.
Details of the Latest Expansion
The newly added 41 checkpoints are strategically distributed across various entry types:
- Four international airports: These include Long Thanh International Airport (Đồng Nai), Gia Binh Airport (Bắc Ninh), Vinh Airport (Nghệ An), and Chu Lai Airport (Đà Nẵng). Long Thanh and Gia Binh airports are slated to implement e-visa procedures once they become operational.
- Eleven land border gates: These additions increase the total number of land checkpoints accepting e-visas to 27.
- Twenty-six seaports: This significant increase brings the total number of seaports authorized for e-visa processing to 39, catering to maritime tourism and cruise passengers.
This expansion builds upon the existing 42 checkpoints established under Resolution No. 127/NQ-CP, which was issued on August 14, 2023.
Broader E-Visa Policy Enhancements
The latest expansion complements earlier, significant reforms to Vietnam's e-visa policy that took effect on August 15, 2023.
- Universal Eligibility: E-visas became available to citizens of all countries and territories worldwide, a substantial relaxation from the previous list of 80 exempted nations.
- Extended Validity: The maximum duration of the e-visa was increased from 30 days to 90 days, allowing for both single and multiple entries.
- Extended Visa Exemption: For citizens of 13 countries enjoying unilateral visa exemption, the permissible stay period was extended from 15 days to 45 days.
Impact on Tourism and Connectivity
These comprehensive changes are expected to provide a smoother and more efficient entry process for international visitors, encouraging longer stays and more immersive travel experiences. The government's commitment to simplifying entry procedures underscores its dedication to recovering and growing its tourism sector, which faced challenges in the pre-pandemic era due to bureaucratic regulations.

While the expanded e-visa is great for convenience and tourism, I hope Vietnam has robust plans for managing the increased visitor numbers without overwhelming local resources.
