Uzbekistan's Mobile Phone Exports Reach Five Countries
In the first nine months of 2025, Uzbekistan successfully exported 4,117 mobile phones, generating approximately $1.3 million in revenue. These exports were directed to five international markets, marking a notable development in the country's electronics sector.
Key Export Destinations and Figures
According to data from the National Statistics Committee, the mobile phones were distributed among the following countries:
- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) received the largest share with 2,916 units.
- China imported 618 devices.
- Afghanistan accounted for 397 units.
- The United States received 144 units.
- Switzerland imported 42 units.
This export activity underscores Uzbekistan's efforts to diversify its trade portfolio and expand its footprint in the global electronics market.
Broader Context: Imports and Export Strategy
While exporting mobile phones, Uzbekistan also remains a significant importer of these devices. During the same January-September 2025 period, the country imported 3.2 million mobile phones with a total value of $370.8 million. This figure represents a 7.4 percent increase in import volume compared to the previous year, indicating a strong domestic demand for mobile technology. The primary sources for these imports included China, Vietnam, the UAE, India, and South Korea.
Uzbekistan has outlined ambitious goals for its electrical engineering industry. The 'Uzbekistan-2030 Strategy' aims to significantly boost the nation's export potential, targeting a doubling of overall exports to $45 billion and a substantial increase in finished and semi-finished products. The country plans to increase electrical equipment exports to $3 billion by 2026 and expand its reach to 80 countries. Over the past seven years, investments in the electrical engineering sector have exceeded $1 billion, leading to the establishment of over 700 new enterprises.

Finally, some local production making it overseas. Good for national pride!

It's encouraging to see Uzbekistan making inroads into international markets, but the huge gap between exports and imports suggests domestic production isn't meeting demand yet, especially with China's influence.

The numbers are too small to be meaningful. This isn't 'export success'.

Exporting over 4,000 phones is a positive development for a nascent industry, but we can't ignore the staggering 3.2 million phones imported, which indicates a challenging path ahead for true self-sufficiency.

4,000 phones? That's barely anything compared to their 3.2 million imports. Pathetic.
