Prime Minister Frieden to Engage with US Tech Leaders
Luxembourg's Prime Minister Luc Frieden will undertake a working visit to the US West Coast from November 8 to November 12. The itinerary includes stops in Seattle and San Francisco, where the Prime Minister is scheduled to hold high-level meetings with prominent technology companies, with a particular emphasis on Artificial Intelligence (AI) firms.
The primary objective of this visit is to 'strengthen economic, technological, and scientific partnerships' with key stakeholders in the region. Discussions are anticipated to revolve around AI and other digital technologies, exploring how innovation intersects with the sovereignty of both Europe and Luxembourg amidst a 'tense geopolitical context'.
Advancing Luxembourg's National AI Strategy
This trip aligns with Luxembourg's broader strategic vision for its digital future, which Prime Minister Frieden outlined in May 2025. The national strategy focuses on three key pillars: data, artificial intelligence, and quantum technology, aiming to establish Luxembourg as an international hub for the secure and sovereign use of sensitive data.
Key initiatives under this strategy include:
- The launch of the Luxembourg AI Factory (L-AIF) in April 2025, one of Europe's first AI Factories designed to support AI development through supercomputing and collaboration.
- A strategic partnership signed in June 2025 with European AI startup Mistral AI, intended to accelerate AI adoption across public services, research, and defense, and to foster the creation of high-skilled jobs in Luxembourg.
- A commitment to implementing the European AI Act to promote innovation while safeguarding citizens' rights.
Prime Minister Frieden has previously advocated for European leadership in AI, notably at a high-level AI summit in Paris in February 2025, where he emphasized that 'Artificial intelligence is a revolution that will fundamentally change our way of living and working in the years to come'.
Tribute to a US Veteran
Beyond the technological and economic agenda, the Prime Minister's visit will also include a significant commemorative event. On November 11, which marks Veterans Day in the United States, Prime Minister Frieden will meet with Ken Mar, a US Army veteran who participated in the Battle of the Bulge. This meeting is intended to pay tribute to the veteran's service and acknowledge his role in the defense of Europe.

Recognizing the transformative power of AI is essential for any nation's progress. Still, the rapid pace of development demands constant scrutiny of its societal impact and the potential for job displacement.
