The India women's cricket team has etched its name in history, clinching their maiden ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 title. In a thrilling final held on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, India defeated South Africa by 52 runs. This victory marks a significant milestone for Indian cricket, as the team lifted their first-ever World Cup trophy.

After being put in to bat, the Indian side posted a commanding total of 298/7 in their allotted 50 overs. The innings was anchored by a brilliant performance from opener Shafali Verma, who scored a free-flowing 87 runs off 78 balls. She was ably supported by vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, who contributed 45 runs and finished as India's leading run-scorer in the tournament.

The opening pair set a strong foundation with a 104-run stand. Later in the innings, Deepti Sharma played a crucial role, scoring 58 runs off 58 balls, while Richa Ghosh provided a late surge with a quick-fire 34 runs off 24 balls, including two sixes. The match saw a two-hour delay due to rain before the start of play.

South Africa's Valiant Chase and India's Stellar Bowling

Chasing a target of 299, South Africa fought valiantly, with captain Laura Wolvaardt leading from the front. Wolvaardt scored a magnificent 101 runs off 98 balls, keeping her team's hopes alive. However, the rest of the South African batting lineup struggled against a disciplined Indian bowling attack.

Deepti Sharma was the star with the ball, delivering a match-winning performance by taking 5 wickets for 39 runs. Her crucial breakthroughs, including the dismissal of Wolvaardt, turned the tide in India's favor. Shafali Verma also contributed with the ball, picking up two wickets.
