Kyiv Bears Brunt of Attacks, Casualties Reported

Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, was among the most severely affected cities. Overnight strikes on October 22 resulted in at least two people killed and five injured, including a two-year-old child, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko and the head of Kyiv's military administration, Tymur Tkachenko. The coordinated attacks have caused extensive damage to Ukraine's power grid, leading to significant blackouts and disruptions in essential services. In the Chernihiv region, the regional capital and its northern areas experienced a complete loss of electricity supply. Local officials reported that four civilians were killed and seven injured, including a 10-year-old girl, in the town of Novhorod-Siverskyi. Repair efforts in Chernihiv were reportedly hampered by continuous drone activity, with over 30,000 consumers in the region losing power. Other affected areas include:

President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that Russia is intensifying these attacks as international pressure on Moscow eases, describing the strategy as 'weaponizing winter' to inflict hardship on the civilian population.
