Suspect Arrested in Series of Unprovoked Vancouver Stabbings

Arrest Made in Yaletown Stabbings

Vancouver police have announced the arrest of a 35-year-old woman in connection with a series of unprovoked stabbings and assaults that occurred along the city's Yaletown seawall last Friday. The suspect was taken into custody in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside on Monday, October 13, 2025, around 4:20 p.m., following a weekend-long search that included the release of suspect images to the public.

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) had described the attacks as 'violent and unprovoked,' making the apprehension of the individual a 'highest priority' for investigators.

Details of the Attacks

The incidents began on Friday, October 10, 2025, shortly after 7:30 a.m., when officers responded to reports of multiple people being stabbed near David Lam Park on the Yaletown seawall.

Initially, three victims were found with non-life-threatening stab wounds and were transported to hospital. Over the weekend, four additional victims came forward, bringing the total number of known victims to seven. The victims included five men and two women, ranging in age from 23 to 59 years old.

Among the seven victims:

  • At least four people were stabbed.
  • One person reported being physically assaulted.
  • Two others were not physically injured.

All individuals who sustained stab wounds suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Police Investigation and Public Appeal

Prior to the arrest, the VPD had released images of the suspect, described as a woman in her late 20s or early 30s, with long, dark hair in a ponytail, a slim build, wearing an oversized black leather jacket, tight dark pants, and possibly a leopard-print shirt or scarf. Sgt. Steve Addison of the VPD emphasized the random nature of the attacks, stating, 'These assaults were violent and unprovoked, and as long as this suspect remains at large we fear the community is at risk.'

The police had urged anyone with information or additional victims to come forward. The suspect remains in custody as the investigation continues.

While the arrest brings a sense of closure for this specific case, it's concerning that such unprovoked attacks are happening. We need to celebrate the arrest but also seriously discuss prevention strategies.

The VPD did well to catch the suspect and reassure the public. But let's not forget the victims and the underlying factors that might lead to such desperation in our city, particularly around areas like the Downtown Eastside.

An arrest doesn't fix the root problem. What about mental health?

One arrest won't stop the violence in Vancouver. It's getting worse.

Finally, some peace of mind. Hope the victims recover well.
