Scholars and experts are advocating for increased cooperation in education, scientific research, and talent development within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization to boost economic growth. This call followed the launch of new SCO joint research bodies in Qingdao.
Two new research institutes, established through partnerships between Shandong University, Russia's National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, and Kyrgyz National University, will support the Belt and Road Initiative and SCO goals. These institutes will focus on international security, economic cooperation, legal issues, and cultural exchange, integrating academic research, talent development, and policy consultation. They will host international conferences, facilitate scholar exchanges, and launch student exchange programs.
A joint research think tank platform was also inaugurated, with founding members including Shandong University and the SCO Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. The platform is open to applications from SCO member states' institutions.
Leaders emphasized enhancing joint training, improving curricula, and expanding collaboration in cutting-edge science. They also highlighted the importance of sharing research resources and translating scientific achievements into practical applications. One vision includes developing online educational resources, such as courses on SCO member countries' culture and history.
The research institutes and think tank platform were launched at a forum in Qingdao focused on integrating science, education, economy, and trade among SCO member states.

Why should we invest in joint research with countries that have questionable human rights records? We must focus on ethical affiliations.

The focus on practical applications of scientific research is crucial. It’s great to see this being prioritized!

Is this really the best use of resources? We should prioritize local education needs instead of international collaboration.

This sounds like just another bureaucratic initiative that won't deliver real results. We need action, not more discussions.

Should we really be sharing our intellectual resources with countries that may not share our values?
