A 62-year-old British man, Mark Raymond Gibbon, has been charged with attempted murder by US police. The charges stem from an alleged incident where he attempted to drown his daughter-in-law. The event occurred while they were on holiday in Davenport, Florida.
The incident reportedly took place at the Solterra Resort. According to Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, Gibbon and the 33-year-old woman had an argument about his grandchildren. The argument allegedly escalated, leading to Gibbon holding the woman's head underwater in a swimming pool.
Authorities responded to a disturbance call at the resort. The sheriff stated that Gibbon repeatedly submerged the victim, preventing her from breathing. He allegedly stopped only after neighbors indicated they had contacted the police. The victim's nine-year-old daughter also intervened, jumping into the pool in an attempt to stop the assault.
Gibbon was arrested and taken to the Polk County jail. He has been charged with attempted second-degree murder and battery. The sheriff emphasized the expectation of appropriate behavior from all visitors to the county.
