Undefeated Canadian boxer, Prince Lucas Bahdi, is scheduled to face former world champion Roger Gutierrez in a 12-round WBA lightweight title elimination bout. The fight will take place on August 23rd in Orlando, Florida.
The victor of this match will earn the position of mandatory challenger for the WBA 135-pound champion, Gervonta Davis. The event will be held at the Caribe Royale Resort and marks the first fight under Bahdi's new multi-fight contract with Jake Paul's Most Valuable Promotions.
Bahdi, with a record of 19 wins and no losses, including 15 knockouts, currently holds rankings among lightweight contenders. He is ranked fifth by the WBA, sixth by the IBF, twelfth by the WBC, and fourteenth by the WBO. His opponent, Gutierrez, is ranked ninth by the WBA.
Gutierrez, a 30-year-old from Venezuela, has a record of 29 wins, 6 losses, and 1 draw, with 22 knockouts. He previously held the WBA super-featherweight title, which he won in 2021 but lost 19 months later. He is currently on a two-fight winning streak.
Bahdi began his professional boxing career in 2019, achieving 11 consecutive knockout victories. The Niagara Falls, Ontario native, secured unanimous decision wins in 2022 against Diego Fabian Eligio and Diego Andrade Chavez before returning to his knockout streak. He claimed the IBF North American lightweight title in May 2023 by defeating Jesus Amparan. In July 2024, he gained significant attention with a knockout victory over Ashton Sylve. His most recent fight in March in Toronto resulted in a unanimous decision win against Ryan James Racaza.
Prior to boxing, Bahdi was involved in hockey and soccer. However, his focus shifted after he began training at a boxing gym at the age of 14. He dedicated himself to the sport at 16. He competed as an amateur boxer from 2009 to 2019 and was an Olympic alternate in 2016.
