Public opinion regarding cellphone use in schools has shifted, with a significant majority of American voters now favoring restrictions or outright bans. Recent polls indicate a growing trend towards policies that limit or prohibit phone usage during class, coinciding with state-level efforts to implement various restrictions.
A poll conducted by Napolitan News Service revealed that two-thirds of voters support banning cellphones in schools. The Pew Research Center found even stronger support for banning cellphone use during class among middle and high school students.
The Napolitan poll indicated that men were slightly more supportive of a cellphone ban than women. Older age groups demonstrated significantly greater support for a ban compared to younger generations.
The Pew Research Center's survey, which polled American adults, found that a majority believe an all-day ban on cellphones would improve students' social skills, grades, and behavior in class. However, opinions were more divided on the impact of a ban on student physical safety.
Emergency situations were a key concern for voters, according to the Napolitan poll. While overall support for a ban was high, a smaller percentage approved of allowing phones in the classroom specifically for emergencies.
When asked who should decide on cellphone bans, most respondents favored local school boards. Florida was the first state to regulate school phone use in 2023. Many other states are either already limiting or banning personal device use in schools or planning to do so in the coming years.
The Napolitan News Service poll surveyed 1,000 registered voters.

Good! Maybe students can remember what it was like to talk to each other.

The school should focus on engaging the kids by making the lessons more interesting and interactive.

I wish this was in place when I was in school. I would have paid more attention in class.

This is just another attempt to control kids. Let them have their phones! It's their right!
