On Thursday, Beijing authorities activated a level III flood prevention emergency response, as reported by Beijing Daily. This action mandates that all pertinent units put into effect rain response measures. These measures include close monitoring of intense short-term rainfall in designated areas and the efficient execution of flood prevention tasks.
Simultaneously, on Thursday morning, the city issued a yellow alert for heavy rain. Forecasts indicate that between 5 pm on Thursday and 8 am on Friday, the hourly rainfall across much of Beijing could surpass 30 millimeters.
Certain districts, including Fangshan, Mentougou, Shijingshan, Haidian, Huairou, Miyun, Pinggu, Daxing, and Tongzhou, are anticipated to experience hourly rainfall intensities exceeding 50mm in some areas.
The official notice also warned of potential secondary disasters. These include flash floods, debris flows, and landslides, particularly in mountainous and hilly regions. Low-lying areas are also at risk of waterlogging.
