A 49-year-old man has been arrested following a car incident in Kunming, Yunnan province. The incident resulted in fatalities and injuries. Local authorities released a statement on Monday detailing the events.
The accident took place on Sunday at 1:16 pm in the Xishan district of the city. The Kunming Public Security Bureau's Traffic Management Detachment issued the statement.
Upon receiving the report, public security authorities promptly responded to the scene. They coordinated with emergency medical services to initiate rescue operations.
The driver, identified as a man surnamed Li, was operating a blue compact SUV. He initially collided with an electric bicycle and several pedestrians on Jinbi Road. He then fled the scene, colliding with additional vehicles and pedestrians before being apprehended by the police.
The collision caused two fatalities and left nine others injured. The injured individuals were transported to the hospital for medical care and are not in critical condition.
An ongoing investigation is being conducted to further examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
