Kejriwal Confirms Appearance
Arvind Kejriwal, former Chief Minister of Delhi and National Convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), is set to appear before the Privileges Committee of the Delhi Legislative Assembly on Friday, March 6, 2026. This appearance is in connection with the ongoing 'Phansi Ghar' case. Kejriwal has confirmed his attendance in a letter to the committee, also requesting that the proceedings be live-streamed for transparency.
The 'Phansi Ghar' Controversy
The 'Phansi Ghar' case centers on a dispute over the authenticity of a renovated structure within the Delhi Assembly premises. In 2022, the then AAP government, under Kejriwal's leadership, inaugurated this section, claiming it to be a British-era 'Phansi Ghar' (execution room). However, the current Speaker, Vijender Gupta, later alleged that the structure was, in fact, a 'tiffin room' and that false information had been disseminated. The matter was subsequently referred to the Privileges Committee for investigation into the structure's true nature.
Previous Summons and Committee Action
Kejriwal, along with other prominent AAP leaders including former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, former Speaker Ram Niwas Goel, and former Deputy Speaker Rakhi Birla, had previously been summoned by the committee. They had challenged these summons, citing a pending petition in court and arguing that the committee lacked jurisdiction to investigate events from a previous assembly's tenure. The committee had noted their non-cooperation and had given them multiple opportunities to appear, even recommending appropriate action for their repeated absence. Kejriwal's upcoming appearance on March 6 follows these earlier developments, though he has stated that his attendance is 'without prejudice to my legal and constitutional rights, remedies, objections and contentions.'
Call for Transparency
In his communication to the Privileges Committee, Kejriwal emphasized the importance of public accountability by requesting the live-streaming of the proceedings. This move aims to ensure transparency in the inquiry into the 'Phansi Ghar' matter, which has been a subject of political contention in Delhi, India.

Live-streaming is just a PR stunt. He should just answer the questions directly.
