While it's proper to offer state honors for a former Vice President, it's also a reminder of the complex and often controversial history of Indonesia's New Order era. His legacy is viewed differently by many.

The ceremony itself was undoubtedly dignified, reflecting national protocol for high-ranking officials. However, acknowledging his role during the Soeharto presidency means his career will always be subject to historical scrutiny and debate.
