Hyundai Motor India Records Highest-Ever February Sales
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has announced a significant milestone, reporting its highest-ever total sales for the month of February 2026. The company clocked 66,134 units in total sales, marking a robust 12.6% year-on-year (YoY) growth compared to 58,727 units sold in February 2025. This performance underscores a strong start to the year for the Indian subsidiary of the South Korean automaker.
Strong Domestic Demand and Surging Exports Drive Growth
The impressive overall sales figures were propelled by both strong domestic demand and a notable increase in exports. Domestic sales for HMIL reached 52,407 units in February 2026, representing a 9.8% YoY increase from 47,727 units in the same month last year. This also marks the company's best-ever February domestic performance since its inception in India.
Exports played a crucial role in the record-breaking month, contributing 13,727 units and registering a substantial 24.8% YoY growth over the 11,000 units shipped in February 2025. The strong export performance highlights the increasing global acceptance of Hyundai's India-made models.
Leadership Comments and Market Context
Commenting on the results, Mr. Tarun Garg, MD & CEO – HMIL, stated, 'We kicked-off 2026 on a high note achieving our highest-ever monthly sales in January and the momentum continues in February. With a total sales (domestic plus exports) of 66,134 units, the highest for any February in our history, we posted a robust growth of 12.6% YoY. This includes domestic sales of 52,407 units, also the highest-ever February sales since inception.' He further added that as Hyundai approaches 30 years in India, the company's ambition is 'to make cutting-edge connected technology accessible to all while elevating every ownership experience and carrying the spirit of Hyundai from India to the world.'
While Hyundai's domestic sales saw a YoY increase, they experienced an 11.3% month-on-month (MoM) decline compared to January 2026, when 59,107 units were sold. Despite this sequential dip, the sustained YoY growth indicates healthy market momentum. The broader Indian automotive market also witnessed strong growth in February 2026, with passenger vehicle wholesales rising by nearly 11%, driven by SUV demand and increased exports across manufacturers. The Hyundai Creta remained a top-selling model for the brand in the domestic market.
Overall Industry Performance
The positive trend for Hyundai aligns with the overall robust performance of the Indian automobile sector in February 2026. Several manufacturers reported their best-ever February sales, fueled by new product launches, facelifts, and innovative financing options. The industry is seeing sustained demand, with passenger vehicle retail sales growing by 12%. This broad-based growth across segments suggests a healthy and expanding automotive market in India.
