Belarusian President Lukashenko Inspects Nestanovichi Agro Dairy Complex in Logoisk
Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko conducted a working visit to the Nestanovichi Agro dairy complex in the Logoisk District of Minsk Oblast on Saturday, February 28, 2026. The visit, dedicated to agricultural matters, focused on assessing the enterprise's operations and discussing broader agricultural development strategies in the region.
Focus on Agricultural Efficiency and Order
During his inspection, President Lukashenko underscored the critical importance of maintaining 'ideal order' in animal husbandry and overall farming practices. He stated that such order is fundamental for ensuring animal health, preservation, and ultimately, achieving positive economic results for agricultural enterprises. The President also stressed the necessity of establishing a clear system of support for rural areas, particularly through 'patronage assistance' from large industrial enterprises. He noted that these industrial entities, which have drawn labor from rural areas, now have a responsibility to assist the agricultural sector.
Nestanovichi Agro's Performance and Development
The Nestanovichi Agro complex, specializing in livestock breeding and crop production, demonstrated strong performance. In 2025, the enterprise reported a 3.3% increase in gross agricultural output at comparable prices, with livestock production surging by 13.8% compared to 2024. The complex manages nearly 8,700 hectares of agricultural land, including 6,500 hectares of arable land. As of January 1, 2026, its cattle population exceeded 4,700 head. Milk production saw a significant rise of 15.5% compared to 2024, with the average productivity of the dairy herd reaching 8,746 kg, an increase of 2,120 kg. In early January 2026, the average milk yield per cow was 9,700 kg, with 100% of the milk produced being of the highest 'extra' grade. The enterprise is currently undergoing a reconstruction project aimed at expanding its capacity to accommodate 1,500 head of cattle; it presently houses 750 dairy cows.
Inspection of Calf Care and Personnel Interaction
President Lukashenko paid particular attention to the conditions of livestock and newborn calf management, inspecting a modern calf care facility at the complex. He instructed that all work at the dairy complex should be completed by September 17. A notable interaction occurred with Shaka Keita, a native of Mali and the chief zootechnician at Nestanovichi Agro, who received his agricultural education in Belarus. Lukashenko urged Keita to be assertive in demanding compliance with technologies and discipline from all staff, emphasizing, 'You are a Belarusian. And you must make everyone work.'
Future Vision for Agricultural Infrastructure
During the visit, President Lukashenko also put forward a proposal to connect Logoisk with Minsk by rail. This initiative aims to enhance the district center's attractiveness as a satellite town. The President's visit aligns with his broader vision for Belarusian agriculture, which includes transforming traditional farms into modern, efficient dairy complexes, often referred to as 'palaces' for cows, to boost milk yields and ensure animal well-being.
Modernizing farms is a positive step for animal welfare and output, yet the strong emphasis on 'order' and 'discipline' might stifle innovation and independent thinking among staff.
The impressive production numbers from Nestanovichi Agro are good for the sector, but I wonder if this model is truly scalable nationwide without heavy state intervention and command.
