The meeting followed China's most successful performance at an overseas Winter Olympics, achieved at the recently concluded Milan-Cortina 2026 Games.
Record-Breaking Performance in Milan-Cortina
The Chinese delegation delivered an unprecedented performance at the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games, securing a total of 15 medals, comprising 5 gold, 4 silver, and 6 bronze. This achievement surpassed China's previous overseas record of 11 medals, set at both the Turin 2006 and Vancouver 2010 Olympics, and matched their overall medal count from the Beijing 2022 Games. China sent its largest-ever overseas Winter Olympic team to Milan-Cortina, with 126 athletes competing across 91 events in 15 disciplines.
Key Achievements Across Disciplines
The success was broad-based, with significant breakthroughs in both snow and ice events:
- Freestyle Skiing Aerials: The team secured 2 gold and 3 bronze medals. Xu Mengtao successfully defended her women's title, while Wang Xindi claimed gold in the men's event. Shao Qi and Li Tianma earned bronze medals, and the trio of Xu, Wang, and Li also contributed to a bronze in the mixed team aerials.
