Major Drug Cartel Bust Uncovers Logistics Empire
Spanish law enforcement has successfully dismantled a sophisticated drug trafficking network that operated a logistics empire of warehouses and transport firms to funnel narcotics from southern Spain to Eastern European countries. The operation, named 'Operation Beluga', was led by the Policía Nacional with crucial support from Europol.
The investigation revealed that the criminal organization, largely composed of Lithuanian nationals, specialized in moving substantial shipments of drugs overland. Spain served as a key supply location, with drugs stockpiled in commercial warehouses in Andalucía before being concealed within legitimate cargo for transport.
Modus Operandi: Concealment and Overland Transport
Investigators first detected the network in April 2025, observing Lithuanian citizens living in luxury homes on the Costa del Sol with no apparent employment, engaging in frequent meetings with known drug traffickers. The group's method involved hiding drugs, specifically hashish and cocaine, amongst legal merchandise such as pallets of bricks. These concealed loads were then transported by heavy goods vehicles across multiple EU borders towards Eastern Europe, where demand for these narcotics remains high.
The first significant intervention occurred in late June 2025 in Alhendín, Granada province, where officers observed suspects manipulating pallets to insert drugs before loading them into sea containers. This initial phase led to the seizure of 1,837 kilograms of hashish and three arrests. Despite a period of inactivity following this bust, the organization resumed its operations in late September.
Arrests and Seizures
The culmination of 'Operation Beluga' resulted in the arrest of seven individuals. Authorities seized a total of nearly 1,900 kilograms of drugs, including both hashish and cocaine. In addition to the narcotics, law enforcement confiscated a range of assets used by the cartel, including:
- An insulated lorry
- 10 vehicles
- Five high-end watches
- 22 telephones
- Various weapons
- €10,000 in cash

Excellent job Europol and Policía Nacional! Keep up the pressure on these criminals.

This won't stop anything. New networks will just pop up. Address the demand, not just supply.

Are they really getting the kingpins, or just the small fish? Makes you wonder.

Focusing on individual busts ignores the systemic issues. This is just PR.
