Delta Vacations Unveils First Malta Program Alongside Inaugural Nonstop JFK Flight

Historic Nonstop Service Connects U.S. and Malta

Delta Vacations has officially launched its first-ever program dedicated to Malta, a move designed to complement Delta Air Lines' inaugural nonstop flight from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to the Mediterranean island nation. This new service, announced on February 24, 2026, marks a significant milestone as it represents the first direct air link between the United States and Malta by a U.S. carrier.

The seasonal flights are scheduled to commence on June 7, 2026, and will operate three times per week until October 23, 2026. Delta will utilize a Boeing 767-300ER aircraft for this route, offering a range of cabin experiences including Delta One, Premium Select, Comfort+, and Main Cabin.

Curated Experiences for American Travelers

The new Delta Vacations Malta program is tailored to provide American travelers with curated experiences across Malta and its sister islands, Gozo and Comino. Travelers will have the opportunity to explore Malta's rich offerings, which include:

  • History and Culture: Boasting 8,000 years of history, including three UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
  • Gastronomy: Featuring Michelin-star dining options.
  • Natural Beauty: With beautiful beaches and opportunities for diving and yachting.
  • Luxury Landscape: Access to new five-star hotels and bespoke experiences.

Michelle Buttigieg, Malta Tourism Authority's Representative for North America, emphasized that the program offers a 'unique opportunity' for travelers to customize their Maltese adventure.

Strategic Expansion and Tourism Boost

The introduction of this nonstop flight and vacation program is a strategic move to strengthen Malta's presence in the North American market, which has emerged as one of its top tourist-generating regions. Carlo Micallef, CEO of the Malta Tourism Authority, stated that the launch of Delta's nonstop flight marks a 'pivotal moment for Malta,' directly connecting American travelers with the best the destination has to offer. Alan Borg, CEO of Malta International Airport, echoed this sentiment, calling it a 'historic milestone' for the islands.

The decision to add Malta to Delta's network followed a unique 'Route Race' where SkyMiles members and Delta employees voted for their preferred new European destinations. This new direct route is anticipated to significantly boost Malta's tourism sector and local economy by providing easier access for U.S. visitors.

This new nonstop service offers exciting travel opportunities for Americans, yet it's important to remember it's seasonal, which limits accessibility for a significant portion of the year and might not provide consistent economic benefits.

Expect prices to skyrocket now, making it less accessible for many.
