Canada Basketball has officially named the 12 athletes who will represent the Senior Men's National Team in Window 2 of the FIBA Men's World Cup 2027 Qualifiers. The team is set to compete in two significant road games, first against Puerto Rico and then against Jamaica, as they continue their campaign towards the 2027 FIBA World Cup in Qatar.

The announced roster features a blend of experienced players and new additions, including:

  • Aaron Best
  • Charles Bediako
  • Marcus Carr
  • Nate Darling
  • Kaza Kajami-Keane
  • Kur Jongkuch
  • David Muenkat
  • Kassius Robertson
  • Jackson Rowe
  • Thomas Scrubb
  • Keevan Veinot
  • Kyle Wiltjer

Nate Darling and Jackson Rowe are joining the qualifying roster for the first time, bringing valuable experience to the squad. Kyle Wiltjer returns after leading Canada in scoring during Window 1, averaging 18.5 points and five rebounds per game against the Bahamas.

Upcoming Schedule and Coaching Staff

Canada's Senior Men's National Team will travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico, to face Puerto Rico on February 26, 2026, at 7:10 p.m. ET / 4:10 p.m. PT. This game will be held at the Coliseo Roberto Clemente. Following this, the team will head to Kingston, Jamaica, to play against Jamaica on March 1, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. ET / 3:00 p.m. PT at the National Indoor Sports Centre.

The team will be led by Head Coach Nathanial Mitchell, who returns for Window 2. He will be supported by assistant coaches JD Jackson, Hanno Möttölä, and Phil Jevtovic, all of whom were part of the staff during the opening window.

Qualification Standings and World Cup Context

Canada enters Window 2 with a strong start, currently sitting atop Group B with an undefeated 2-0 record, following a sweep of the Bahamas in Window 1. Jamaica also holds a 2-0 record after sweeping Puerto Rico, setting the stage for a pivotal matchup between the two group leaders in Kingston. Puerto Rico and the Bahamas are both 0-2 heading into this window.

This qualification campaign is part of the journey towards the FIBA Men's World Cup 2027, which will be hosted in Qatar. Canada's program is building on a historic achievement, having secured a bronze medal at the most recent Men's World Cup in 2023, marking the country's first-ever podium finish at the event.

It's positive that new players like Darling and Rowe are getting integrated into the national program. However, the article doesn't really address how this specific group plans to handle potential defensive matchups against more athletic teams, which is a key factor in these qualifiers.

Two road games for this group? That's a recipe for disaster.
