Pedestrian Seriously Injured in Alston Collision
A man in his 70s is in serious condition in hospital after being struck by a car in a hit-and-run incident in Alston, near Longridge, Lancashire, in the early hours of Friday, February 21, 2026. The collision occurred on Preston Road, near the junction with Pinfold Lane.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident at approximately 1:33 AM GMT. The pedestrian suffered multiple injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Arrest Follows Driver's Failure to Stop
The vehicle involved, identified as a Nissan Serena, failed to stop at the scene of the crash. However, police located the driver later in the Preston area. A 37-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident. He is currently being held on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop.
Police Appeal for Witnesses and Footage
Lancashire Police have launched an investigation into the collision and are appealing for public assistance. Sgt Paul McCurrie of Lancashire Police's Roads Policing Team stated, 'My thoughts are very much with the injured man as he undergoes treatment and care in hospital. This was a collision which resulted in him receiving significant injuries and an investigation was launched immediately into the cause of it.'
Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the collision or has relevant footage to come forward. This includes individuals who may have been driving in the area around the time of the incident with dashcam footage, or residents with CCTV or Ring doorbell footage that could assist the investigation.
