Extradition Confirmed for Accused Murderer
Miguel Ángel Álvarez García, a Dominican national also known by aliases such as 'Manteco', 'Mantequilla', 'el Gordo', 'el Grande', and 'el Compañero', was extradited from Spain to the Dominican Republic on the night of Monday, February 17, 2026. He faces charges of murder and illegal possession of firearms in the Distrito Nacional.
The extradition was the result of a collaborative effort between the Directorate of International Legal Assistance, Extraditions and Human Rights of the Public Ministry, and the District National Prosecutor's Office. Upon his arrival at the Aeropuerto Internacional de las Américas (AILA) in Santo Domingo, Álvarez García was escorted by members of OCN-Interpol and subsequently presented before the District National Prosecutor's Office to continue with the judicial process.
Details of the Accusation
Álvarez García is specifically accused of ordering the murder of Cristofer Díaz Rodríguez, an event that occurred on November 6, 2024. The incident took place on Ramón Cáceres street, at the corner of Américo Lugo, in the Ensanche La Fe sector of the Distrito Nacional.
According to the Public Ministry's investigation, Álvarez García allegedly conspired with Sandy Gabriel Alcántara, known as 'Chamaco', who has been identified as the individual who fired the shots that killed Díaz Rodríguez. Further investigations indicate that Álvarez García also coordinated the crime with Manuel Antonio Mora ('Enchumbao'), who is currently in preventive prison, and two fugitives, José David Rojas Mueses ('la Boa') and José Luis Díaz Reyes ('Vacano').
Legal Framework and International Cooperation
The charges against Álvarez García include violations of several articles of the Dominican Penal Code, specifically articles 295, 296, 297, and 302. He is also accused of infringing upon articles 66 and 67 of Law 631-16, which pertains to the Control and Regulation of Arms, Ammunition, and Related Materials.
The Public Ministry expressed its gratitude to the authorities of the Kingdom of Spain for their continuous support in combating crime and ensuring that those who flee justice are held accountable. This extradition underscores the commitment of both nations to international cooperation in legal matters.

Bringing Álvarez García back is important for the victim's family and for justice, yet the fact that two co-conspirators remain fugitives shows the ongoing challenge for authorities.
