Inaugural OneCan Congress Set for São Paulo
Brazil will host Latin America's first exclusive metal packaging congress, named OneCan – International Metal Packaging Congress, from April 6 to 8, 2027. The landmark event is scheduled to take place at Distrito Anhembi in São Paulo (SP), marking a significant step for the region's metal packaging industry.
The congress aims to be a central meeting point for the South American metal packaging market, emphasizing innovation, sustainability, and business generation. It will gather stakeholders from across the entire metal packaging value chain, encompassing raw materials, components, design solutions, logistics, recycling, and the circular economy.
Collaboration and Industry Significance
Organized by Koelnmesse Brazil, the OneCan congress was conceived through the collaborative efforts of key industry representative entities: the Brazilian Aerosol Association (ABAS), the Brazilian Steel Packaging Association (ABEAÇO), and the Brazilian Aluminum Can Association (Abralatas). This partnership underscores the event's comprehensive approach to the sector.
Beni Piatetzky, Managing Director of Koelnmesse Brazil, stated that 'OneCan was created to respond to real market demands and to fill an important gap in the industry: the absence of an event dedicated exclusively to metal packaging.' He added, 'In a single environment, we will bring together exhibitors from the entire value chain, creating a strategic platform for business generation and qualified content for more than 3,000 visitors from Brazil and abroad.'
Economic Impact and Sustainability Focus
The metal packaging sector holds substantial economic importance in Brazil. The three associations behind OneCan collectively represent companies that generate over BRL 55 billion in annual revenue and are responsible for approximately 52,000 direct and indirect jobs. Brazil is recognized internationally as the fourth-largest global producer of aerosols and the third-largest global market for aluminum beverage cans.
Sustainability is a core pillar of the event, reflecting the industry's commitment to environmental responsibility. Alyne Freitas, President of ABAS, highlighted that the event 'reinforces our commitment to sustainability by encouraging investments in recycling, education, and process improvements aimed at reducing carbon emissions.' Brazil's aluminum can recycling rate has consistently been above 95% for over 15 years, positioning the country as a global leader in circular economy practices for this material.
Strategic Co-location and Future Outlook
The OneCan congress will be held simultaneously with Anuga Select Brazil 2027. This strategic co-location is expected to significantly expand the event's reach by connecting manufacturers of metal packaging with decision-makers from the food and beverage industry, as well as sectors such as cosmetics, cleaning products, paints, and chemicals. Gerald Böse, CEO of Koelnmesse, noted that 'With OneCan, we expand Koelnmesse's presence in Brazil and open a new growth segment.'
The congress is anticipated to attract a diverse audience, fostering investments, accelerating partnerships, and strengthening the competitiveness of the national market on a global scale.
