Certification Milestone Achieved
Lufthansa has announced a significant advancement in the certification process for its new Allegris Business Class seats on the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner fleet. Following recent regulatory approvals, the airline can now offer 25 of the 28 Business Class seats for booking on flights scheduled from April 15, 2026, onwards. This development addresses previous limitations where only a fraction of the premium seats were available due to ongoing certification requirements.
The remaining three seats, specifically 2A, 2K, and 2E in the second row of the Business Class cabin, are still awaiting final regulatory clearance.
Allegris Experience Expands
The Allegris cabin concept, first introduced in summer 2024 on Lufthansa's Airbus A350-900 aircraft operating from Munich, represents a comprehensive redesign across all long-haul classes. The new Business Class offers an enhanced passenger experience with features designed for comfort and privacy, including:
- Direct aisle access for all passengers
- Larger entertainment screens
- Wireless charging capabilities
- Increased personal storage space
Passengers will have access to various seat options, such as Business Class Suites with sliding privacy doors, Extra Space Seats, Privacy Seats by the window, and Extra Long Beds extending up to 2.20 meters. While reservations for 'Classic Seats' remain complimentary, certain specialized seats offering additional comfort may be booked for an extra charge.
Impact on Operations and Routes
Lufthansa has been operating its Boeing 787-9s with Allegris interiors from Frankfurt since October 2025. The airline currently has eight of these Dreamliners based in Frankfurt, with plans to expand the fleet to 29 aircraft by the end of 2027.
The expanded availability of Allegris Business Class seats will benefit passengers on numerous international routes from Frankfurt. At the start of the summer flight schedule, these aircraft will serve destinations including Austin, Rio de Janeiro, Bogotá, Cape Town, Shanghai, Hyderabad, and Hong Kong. Further expansion will see services to New York JFK and Los Angeles added in June, followed by Delhi in July.
Lufthansa CEO's Statement
Jens Ritter, CEO of Lufthansa Airlines, expressed enthusiasm regarding the development. 'Our guests love Allegris. More than one million passengers have traveled in the new cabin since summer 2024. We are delighted to be able to offer significantly more passengers this top-of-the-range product for bookings from Frankfurt starting today. Allegris is an experience in all classes; the approval of the majority of seats in Business Class on the Boeing 787-9 is an important milestone for Lufthansa – and above all, great news for our customers!' Ritter stated.

Lufthansa prices are already outrageous. This just adds more layers of cost.
