Qatar Airways Reduces European Flight Frequencies to London Gatwick, Venice, and Warsaw

Qatar Airways Adjusts European Flight Schedule

Doha-based carrier Qatar Airways has implemented reductions to its flight services to several key European destinations, including London Gatwick, Venice, and Warsaw. The changes, recently filed with aviation analytics firm Cirium and reflected in the airline's booking systems, indicate a strategic reallocation of capacity across its global network.

Specific Route Reductions Detailed

The adjustments impact several routes:

  • London Gatwick: Services to London Gatwick will be reduced from a double-daily schedule to 11 times weekly. A fully daytime service will continue to operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Both flights on this route utilize a Boeing 787-8 aircraft. Qatar Airways maintains a robust presence in London, also operating up to 10 daily flights to London Heathrow.
  • Venice: The Venice route will experience both frequency reductions and a decrease in capacity. The airline is replacing the previously deployed Airbus A350 with a smaller Airbus A320. The current schedule for Venice shows four weekly flights.
  • Warsaw: Frequencies to Warsaw are also being scaled back. The Airbus A330-300 aircraft will now operate 12 times weekly, down from a double-daily service. The fully daytime flight option will no longer be available on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Broader European Network Consolidation

These specific cuts are part of a wider consolidation of Qatar Airways' European network. The airline's overall capacity to Europe has seen a contraction this year compared to 2025, with flight numbers declining by approximately 1.8% and seat capacity decreasing by 2.2%. Beyond London Gatwick, Venice, and Warsaw, other routes affected by reductions include suspensions to Lyon and Hamburg. Flights to destinations such as Trabzon, Sofia, Sarajevo, and Belgrade have also seen reductions of between 15% and 25%. Even Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport experienced a roughly 40% decline in flight offerings, though this was partially offset by the deployment of larger aircraft.

Strategic Capacity Shifts

While the immediate redeployment of capacity from these specific European cuts is not yet clear, Qatar Airways has been actively adjusting its network in other regions. The airline has previously announced increased frequencies to various destinations across its global network. For instance, in March 2025, Qatar Airways added more services to cities including London Heathrow (increasing to 56 weekly flights), Amsterdam, Tokyo Narita, and Madrid. The airline's cargo division also boosted belly-hold capacity on key routes to destinations such as London (Heathrow), Dublin, Madrid, Berlin, Frankfurt, and Manchester for the winter 2025 season. This indicates a dynamic approach to network planning, aligning capacity with evolving market demands and strategic priorities.

The cuts to destinations like Gatwick might inconvenience some passengers, but the airline's simultaneous increase in flights to other major hubs suggests a strategic reallocation of resources rather than a simple contraction.

Another blow to Venice tourism. Replacing A350s with A320s is a downgrade.

One could argue that these cuts limit travel options for some, but the context of increased frequencies to other major global cities, including cargo boosts, suggests a comprehensive strategy to enhance their most vital routes and operational efficiency.
