Sharad Pawar Admitted to Pune Hospital
Veteran Indian politician Sharad Pawar, aged 85, was admitted to Ruby Hall Clinic, a private hospital in Pune, on Monday, February 9, 2026. He was hospitalized after experiencing coughing, difficulty in breathing, and chest congestion. A CT scan performed upon admission confirmed a chest infection.
Stable Condition and Ongoing Treatment
Doctors treating Pawar have confirmed his condition is stable. He has been placed in a private room and is not in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). His vital parameters, including oxygen saturation, blood pressure, and blood oxygen levels, are reported to be normal. According to his daughter, Supriya Sule, Pawar has developed chest congestion and will require a five-day course of antibiotics.
Dr. Parvez Grant, Chief Cardiologist and Managing Trustee of Ruby Hall Clinic, stated that the CT scan revealed the chest infection. Dr. Abhijit Lodha, one of the treating physicians, indicated that Pawar's condition is stable and attributed his symptoms to physical exertion.
Family Presence and Public Appeal
Pawar was accompanied to the hospital from his residence in Baramati by his daughter and Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule, son-in-law Sadanand Sule, wife Pratibha Pawar, and grand-nephew Rohit Pawar. Rohit Pawar appealed to party workers to avoid visiting the hospital to prevent inconvenience to other patients.
Political Background and Recent Activity
A prominent figure in Indian politics and chief of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar faction), Sharad Pawar is an oral cancer survivor. Despite age-related health concerns and a recent bereavement in his family, he has remained active in public life.
