A Turkish national, identified as Halil Sener, a 26-year-old professional disc jockey, was arrested at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. Sener was apprehended for allegedly attempting to smuggle 1.29 kilograms of cocaine into Indonesia. The arrest occurred around 17:00 WITA (Central Indonesia Time) after he arrived on Emirates flight EK368 from Dubai.

Discovery and Investigation Details

Customs officials at the airport discovered the illicit substance during a routine X-ray scan of Sener's luggage. The scan revealed a clear plastic package containing a white powdery substance, which laboratory tests later confirmed to be cocaine with a net weight of 1,295.20 grams. Following the discovery, customs officials coordinated with the Bali Police Narcotics Directorate, who dispatched a team for further examination and to take the suspect into custody.

Bali Police Chief Inspector General Daniel Adityajaya confirmed the arrest during a press conference held in Denpasar on Saturday, February 7, 2026. According to authorities, Sener claimed he was asked to transport the drugs by an individual identified only as 'M' or 'Miami,' whom he reportedly met in Brazil. Sener stated he had not yet received payment for the alleged smuggling. However, police believe he is part of a larger, sophisticated international drug trafficking network, and investigations are ongoing to trace the wider connections.

Severe Penalties Under Indonesian Law

Halil Sener now faces severe legal consequences under Indonesia's revised Criminal Code. Drug trafficking offenses in Indonesia carry stringent penalties, which can include life imprisonment or a maximum of 20 years behind bars. In serious cases, particularly for major drug smuggling offenses, the law also allows for the imposition of the death penalty.
