New Partnership Forged
Turkish Airlines and Air Montenegro officially signed a codeshare agreement on January 26, 2026, marking a significant step to strengthen air transportation and offer broader travel options between Türkiye and Montenegro. The collaboration aims to enhance connectivity and foster tourism and trade between the two nations.
Under the terms of the agreement, Turkish Airlines (TK) will place its flight code on services operated by Air Montenegro (4O) between Istanbul and the Montenegrin cities of Tivat (TIV) and Podgorica (TDG). In return, Air Montenegro will add its flight code to Turkish Airlines' services connecting the two countries, as well as on Turkish Airlines' flights from Istanbul to Dubai and Baku.
Strategic Benefits for Travelers and Economies
The codeshare partnership is expected to provide travelers with a wider range of routes, more flexible schedules, and easier connections, particularly through Istanbul, which serves as a major global transfer hub connecting Europe and Asia.
Bilal Ekşi, Chief Executive Officer of Turkish Airlines, commented on the partnership, stating, 'Istanbul serves as a strategic bridge connecting Europe and Asia, and our cooperation with Air Montenegro will add new momentum to traffic between Türkiye and Montenegro. But it's not just about airlines; it's about creating synergies for tourism and trade between our two countries.'
Vukadin Stojanović, Chief Executive Officer of Air Montenegro, echoed this sentiment, highlighting that the agreement represents 'an important step in strengthening Montenegro's international connectivity.' He added that by combining their regional network with Turkish Airlines' global reach, they are offering 'more destinations, greater flexibility, and a higher quality travel experience, while also supporting the development of cultural and economic ties between our two countries.'
Expanding Global Reach
This codeshare agreement is particularly notable as it marks the first such partnership for Air Montenegro since its establishment in 2021. The collaboration aligns Air Montenegro's regional presence in the Balkans with Turkish Airlines' extensive international network, which includes flights to 356 destinations in 132 countries. The deal is anticipated to boost passenger traffic and support the sustainable development of air travel between Türkiye and Montenegro.

The economic benefits from increased trade and tourism are promising for both countries. Yet, the long-term sustainability of such rapid growth needs careful management to avoid overwhelming local resources.

This partnership offers travelers more options through a major hub like Istanbul, which is a clear benefit. However, we should also consider the environmental impact of potentially increased air traffic between these regions.

Improved accessibility to Montenegro is a positive step for its development and visibility. Still, it's important to monitor whether this leads to genuine cultural exchange or just a transient flow of passengers.
