Gloucestershire Woman Found Guilty of Modern Slavery
Amanda Wixon, a 56-year-old mother of ten from Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, has been convicted at Gloucester Crown Court of keeping a vulnerable woman as a 'house slave' for more than 25 years. The verdict, delivered on January 21, 2026, followed a trial that exposed a prolonged period of horrific abuse and forced labour against a victim identified only as 'K', who was just 16 years old when the ordeal began in 1995.
Wixon was found guilty of false imprisonment, two charges of requiring a person to perform forced or compulsory labour, and four charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. She was acquitted of one assault charge.
Decades of Abuse and Isolation
The court heard harrowing details of the abuse inflicted upon 'K', who has learning difficulties. For over two and a half decades, she was subjected to a regime of violence, deprivation, and forced servitude. Prosecutors outlined how 'K' was:
- Regularly beaten, including being struck with a broom handle, which resulted in her teeth being knocked out.
- Forced to consume washing-up liquid and had bleach splashed on her face.
- Repeatedly had her head shaved against her will.
- Limited to scraps of food, while being compelled to care for Wixon's children and clean the squalid family home.
- Forbidden from leaving the house, with doors and windows kept locked, and was only able to wash secretly at night.
Police officers who eventually rescued 'K' described her bedroom as resembling a 'prison cell'. Furthermore, it was revealed that 'K' had no medical or dental records for two decades, highlighting her complete isolation from external support systems.
Rescue and Wixon's Unrepentant Stance
The victim's ordeal finally ended in March 2021 when one of Wixon's sons alerted police to the situation. Upon her rescue, 'K' was in her mid-40s.
Outside court, Wixon maintained her innocence and showed no remorse. When asked what she would say to her victim, she reportedly replied, 'Not a lot.' Asked if she was sorry, Wixon stated, 'No. I never done it.' Judge Ian Lawrie KC described the case as having a 'Dickensian quality,' underscoring the severe hardship and cruelty involved.
Victim's Recovery and Upcoming Sentencing
Since her rescue, 'K' has shown remarkable progress. She is now living with a foster family, attending college, and has even travelled abroad for holidays, building a life that was stolen from her. Detective Constable Emma Jackson from Gloucestershire Police noted that 'K' is 'flourishing' and living a healthy life.
Wixon has been released on conditional bail and is scheduled to be sentenced on March 12, 2026, at Gloucester Crown Court.

25 years! This isn't justice, it's a travesty that she got away with it for so long.

The judge's 'Dickensian' comment really hits home; this kind of cruelty feels like it belongs in the past. We need to do more to educate people on the signs of modern slavery and protect the most vulnerable.

How did this go on for 25 years?! The system utterly failed K, it's a disgrace.

Bail? For a monster who kept someone as a slave for decades? What a joke.

A conviction is vital for accountability, and K's resilience is truly inspiring. Still, the lack of remorse from the perpetrator and the length of time this went on highlights a huge gap in our ability to protect the most vulnerable.
